The Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for Greek Diaspora Affairs, Terens Quick, met today with the President of the Centre for the Greek Language, Emeritus Professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Ioannis Kazazis.
Mr. Kazazis briefed Mr. Quick on the Centre for the Greek Language and its activities, putting particular emphasis on the Centre’s role as the sole agency of the Greek state responsible for certification of knowledge of the Greek language, as well as on the actions the Centre has undertaken for qualitative promotion of the teaching and learning of Greek as a foreign or second language.
The Deputy Minister agreed with Mr. Kazazis that the Foreign Ministry will support the effort towards maximum promotion of the programme for certification of Greek language learning abroad, both at centres where Greek is taught as a foreign language and among Greek communities abroad. It is noted that the Centre for the Greek Language is responsible for carrying out the examinations for attainment in Greek, which are held every May at over 150 accredited examination centres around the world.
