Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Terens Quick, met at the Foreign Ministry with Metropolitan Athenagoras of Mexico and Central America, to discuss on the recent earthquakes’ impact on the Greek community of Mexico. It was ascertained, that, apart from damage to some homes, there was no other negative impact. This confirmed the information provided to the Deputy Minister by the President of the Greek community of Mexico, Mrs. Georgia Boutziani, to the effect that there were no injuries or fatalities among the Greek community in Mexico.
His Eminence, who, based in Mexico, has ecclesiastical responsibility for 20 Central American countries, including Panama, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela and Nicaragua, presented the Metropolis’s projects, which include important work, mainly in the social sector, in each individual country.
Mr. Quick made assurances that Metropolitan Athenagoras will have all possible assistance on issues related to the Metropolis of Mexico’s joint actions with the few, but dynamic, Greeks living in the countries under its responsibility, stressing that, on ecclesiastical issues, he will also have the full support of the competent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Amanatidis.
