Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos is in Montreux, Switzerland, where he is participating in the Geneva II Conference on Syria, which was convened by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Before the opening of the Conference, Mr. Ban Ki-moon met with Mr. Venizelos and thanked him for his intervention yesterday to allow the aircraft carrying the Syrian delegation to refuel in Athens and depart for Geneva.
On the margins of the Conference, Mr. Venizelos had the opportunity to meet with many of his counterparts who are also participating in the Conference – mainly with the Foreign Ministers of the U.S., the Russian Federation, Germany, Egypt, France, Kuwait, and with the Representative of the Holy See.
The Conference is expected to conclude this evening, with Mr. Venizelos’ intervention scheduled for after the luncheon.
