Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement regarding the desecration of the Holocaust Memorial in Athens:
“I express my profound abhorrence and unequivocal condemnation of the desecration of the Athens Holocaust Memorial.
It is a barbarous act that is a brutal affront to the history not only of the Jewish Community, but of all the Greek people, who respect and honor the memory of the tens of thousands of Greek Jews who met tragic deaths in the concentration camps during the Holocaust.
I express my support for the Jewish Community, and I assure them that the competent authorities will proceed to the necessary actions to identify and arrest the perpetrators of this distressing anti-Semitic act.”
