Foreign Ministry announcement on the terrorist attacks in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula

“We unequivocally condemn the terrorist attacks in the Sinai Peninsula, which cost the lives of over 26 persons, mainly soldiers, and resulted in the wounding of many others.

We express our condolences to the families of the victims, and our wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded.

We once again assure the friendly Egyptian people and the Egyptian government that Greece will remain a firm supporter of Egypt, which is a pillar of stability and security for the whole of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Arab world.

We note, finally, the importance to all Christians of the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine, in Sinai. We express the certainty that the local authorities will continue to show ongoing consideration for the monastery’s protection.”
