Greek-Egyptian Business Conference and Business Meetings held (Athens, 8 December 2015)

On the occasion of the visit of His Excellency the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the General Secretariat for International Economic Relations held a Greek-Egyptian Business Conference on Tuesday, 8 December 2015, at a central hotel in Athens.

The main subjects at the Business Conference, which was attended by over 200 participants, included the potential for investments, business cooperation and further strengthening of the economic relations between the two countries, particularly with regard to the prospects being created by the opening of the second canal at Suez.

The Conference proceedings closed with speeches to the two countries’ business communities from the President of Egypt and the Prime Minister of Greece, while there had been previous addresses from the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, G. Stathakis, the Egyptian Deputy Minister for Investments, Ashraf A. Salman, and Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas. Egyptian officials also presented the development dimension of the Suez Canal, Egypt’s new investment law, and the industrial development of the new Port of Said.

In the context of the Business Conference, in the presence of the President of Egypt and the Prime Minister of Greece, a Greek-Egyptian Agreement on Air Transport, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Port Authorities of Kavala and Alexandria, and a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Port Authorities of Alexandroupoli and Damietta were signed.

With the aim of enhancing Greek business extroversion and supporting the export efforts of Greek enterprises, over 80 B2B meetings were held on the margins of the Conference, bringing together representatives of Greek and Egyptian companies in the sectors of construction, building materials, residential development, energy, water resource management, fertilizer, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food manufacturing, agrofood, consultancy services, shipping and tourism.
