Alternate Foreign Minister for European Affairs Nikos Xydakis met with Fabio Pigliapoco, Secretary General of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (AII), today, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Let it be noted that Greece is chairing the AII as of June 1st 2016 for a year and that it is, moreover, co-chairing the EUSAIR (EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region) Governing Board along with the European Commission.
During the meeting, the Secretary General briefed the Alternate FM for European Affairs on AII actions. Mr. Pigliapoco stressed that during Greece’s chairing pro tempore that a program of the Initiative is being financed by the European Commission for the first time. This is the Adrion Programme, which the region of Western Greece, the Universities of Patras and Ioannina, the Ionian University, as well as respective regions and universities from all countries taking part in the AII, are involved in.
Alternate FM Xydakis for his part informed his interlocutor that, on the occasion of chairing the AII, Greece is preparing for a Meeting of Senior Officials next month in Athens and will host a Forum for the AII in May 2017.
