Deputy FM Amanatidis’ statement at the events marking the National Anniversary of 28 October 1940

Representing the Greek government at the events in Kilkis marking the national anniversary of 28 October 1940, Deputy Foreign Minister Ioannis Amanatidis made the following statement:

“The Greek epic of 1940 was the first loss for what had until then been the undefeated Axis forces, and it gave hope to all the peoples of the free world.

A small country stood as the vanguard in defence of the values of the civilized world and of the human rights being violated by the violence and arrogance of fascism.

Today Greece continues on its course with the same values, within a united Europe and the world. Day by day we are recovering our self-confidence and courage, making the country a trusted ally in the heart of international organizations.

Our goal is a Greece that is admired and respected, not only for its history, but also for its current achievements.
