On the occasion of today’s sad 33rd anniversary of the unilateral declaration of the bogus state in the occupied portion of Cyprus, which the United Nations Security Council has condemned as an illegal and invalid action that impedes the resolution of the Cyprus problem, Greece calls on Turkey to comply, at long last, with the UN decisions regarding Cyprus.
We call on Turkey to comply, in particular, with resolutions 541 and 550, which demand the withdrawal of the aforementioned legally invalid declaration, “as well as other actions or threats of actions aimed at further consolidating the purported independent State and the division of Cyprus,” and call on all states to respect the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus and not to recognize, facilitate or in any way assist the secessionist entity that calls itself the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”
Greece will never accept or recognize the consequences of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus. Our unwavering national goal remains the termination of the Turkish occupation and the finding of a comprehensive and agreed solution to the Cyprus problem, which is inconceivable without the complete withdrawal of Turkish forces and the elimination of the anachronistic system of guarantees.
