Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Amanatidis met, yesterday, with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and All Palestine, on the margins of the 2nd International Conference on Religious and Cultural Pluralism and Peaceful Coexistence in the Middle East.
The challenges that Christians in the Middle East are facing were discussed. In this context, stress was put on the need to defend and preserve the status quo in the Holy Land, based on legality and transparency. In light of the ever-increasing instances of it being disputed, the protection of this status quo, which has ensured for centuries the peaceful coexistence of all religions, takes on increased importance.
The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs also referred to the age-old ties of Hellenism and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, expressing his readiness to provide support to the difficult work of the Patriarchate.
