On 4 November 2015, the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations, Giorgos Tsipras, addressed the Capital & Vision multi-congress on “Extroversion and Greek Economy: Time of reconstruction”, which was organized by the Greek-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Greek daily “Capital”, the Capital.gr portal, and the Symeon G. Tsomokos S.A. company.
Mr. G. Tsipras opened his speech with the efforts being made at the Foreign Ministry to develop Greek economic diplomacy based on successful international models and the concurrent rationalization of the relevant structures and actions. In this context, Mr. G. Tsipras stressed that the Foreign Ministry will proceed to a specific action plan – beyond traditional diplomacy – with creative initiatives and further capitalization on and strengthening of the existing dynamic, referring specifically to the revitalization of the Economic and Commercial Affairs branch, after many years.
Mr. G. Tsipras also underscored the need for strategic planning for Greek extroversion – given the special parameters of the Greek economy – which could provide clear competitive advantages for export sectors not operating in an optimum manner. He stressed that, contrary to some views, the high exports of certain EU countries with populations and economies of comparable size to those of Greece are due precisely to the central planning followed by those countries.
Finally, Mr. G. Tsipras made mention of the necessary upgrading of synergies between sectors and agencies of the public and private sectors, with the aim of achieving the necessary coordination with the needs of the real economy.
