Foreign Minister Avramopoulos to participate in four-member mission of Foreign Ministers to Cairo

Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos will travel to Cairo on Thursday, 6 September 2012, as a member of a four-member mission that also includes Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Markoullis and the Foreign Minister of Malta, Tonio Borg.

The Foreign Ministers of the four European countries neighbouring Egypt will have the opportunity to meet with the political leadership of the country and convey a message of the European Union’s solidarity with and support for the transition process under way in Egypt. Within the framework of their meetings, they will discuss various issues of common and regional interest, given that Egypt is one of the main pillars of stability in the wider region of the Middle East and the Arab world.

The Foreign Ministers’ schedule of contacts with the Egyptian leadership includes meetings with the President of the Republic Mohamed Morsy, Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamal Amr, and the Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil El-Araby.
