Election of Mrs. Photini Pazartzis (Associate Professor of International Law, University of Athens, Faculty of Law) to the Human Rights Committee.


Mrs. Photini Pazartzis was elected member of the Human Rights Committee, at the elections held in New York, during the 34th Meeting of the States Parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, on 24th June 2014.

Mrs. Pazartzis has a long experience and recognized legal competence in the field of promotion of human rights and implementation of international humanitarian law.

Photini Pazartzis

Associate Professor of International Law, Faculty of Law, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She completed her undergraduate studies in the same University (1983) and her graduate studies at the University of Paris-II Panthéon-Assas (DEA, 1984; Doctorat d’Etat, 1992, très honorable).

She has been Visiting Fellow at the Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law of the University of Cambridge (1998), Visiting Professor at the Universities of Bordeaux, Paris-I, Paris-II (Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales), Director of Studies in Public International Law at the Hague Academy of International Law (2003). She has taught international law in the Temple University School of Law / University of Athens joint summer program (1999-2003) and has lectured in various universities and institutions.

Member, Greek Delegation to the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (1999-2007), Member (Alternate) of the Hellenic National Committee for the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law, Member of the Hellenic Council on Citizenship, Member of the OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration (since 2013).

Since 2002, she is President of the Hellenic Branch of the International Law Association. She is member of the American Society of International Law, the European Society of International, the French Society of International Law, the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations.

Her fields of interest are settlement of disputes, international judicial institutions and procedures, international criminal law.

She is the author of numerous articles, her principal monographs including:
