Official State Celebration of the Greek National Day of 25th March
The Official State Celebration of the Greek National Day of the 25th March took place at the South Australian National War Memorial in Adelaide on Sunday, 25th March, organized by the Consulate General of Greece in Adelaide.
The Celebration lasted for 50 minutes, during which 37 wreaths were laid by His Excellency The Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia, Mr. Andreas – Konstantinos Gouras, Consul General of Greece in Adelaide and Dean of the Consular Corps of South Australia, the Honourable David Ridgway MLC, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, representing the Honourable Steven Marshall MP, Premier of South Australia, Senator David Fawcett, Chairman of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, representing the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister of Australia, the Legislative Council elect Mrs Irene Pnevmatikos, representing the State Labor Party, the Honourable Steve Georganas MP, Federal Member for Hindmarsh, representing the Honourable Bill Shorten MP, Federal Leader of the Opposition, the Honourable Jing Lee MLC, the Legislative Council elect Mrs Connie Bonaros, Senator Don Farrell, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Shadow Minister for Sport and Shadow Special Minister of State, the Honourable Tony Zappia MP, Federal Member for Makin, Group Captain Alan Lawrence, representing Air Commodore Vincent (Joe) Iervasi, AM, Commander Air Warfare Centre, Senior Australian Defence Force Officer – EDP, Colonel Stan Papastamatis, representing Brigadier Mick Burgess, Commander 9th Brigade, Commander Andrew Burnett ADC, RAN, Commanding Officer Navy Headquarters South Australia, Superintendent Craig Wall, representing Commissioner of Police Mr Grant Stevens, Mr Bronson Horan, State President of the RSL, Mrs Janice Silby, Deputy Commissioner, Department of Veterans’ Affairs in South Australia, Mr Norman Schueler, Deputy Chair of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission, Mrs Lidia Moretti, the United Nations Association of Australia, South Australia Division, as well as 19 Greek – Australian Organizations.
Moreover, the Director of the South Australia State Office of DFAT Mr Dave Gordge, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China Mr Siping Cai, the Consul of Italy Mrs Roberta Ronzitti, many Honorary Consuls and the President of the Armenian Cultural Association of South Australia were also present. An Australian Army Band and many children with Greek national costumes also took part. The Consul General of Greece was also present, as he does every year, at the Doxology in the Church of Prophet Elias Norwood of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
