Celebrating “OHI day” in Melbourne (28 October 2018)
The Consul General of Melbourne, Mr. D. Michalopoulos participated in the ceremonies to mark the 78th anniversary of “OHI day”, in Melbourne. Celebrations this year were held at the Holy Monastery of “Axion Estin” in Northcote. Bishop Ezekiel of Dervis presided over the Doxology, which was followed by a Trisagion Service at the Cenotaph and a wreath-laying ceremony.
In his message the Consul General reminded the common struggles of Greeks and Australians in the frontlines of Macedonia, Central Greece, Peloponnesus and Crete during 1941, which have forged a strong friendship between our two people and a fruitful partnership between our two countries.
In another event, the Hellenic Sub Branch of the RSL commemorated “OHI Day” with a church service at St Eustathios church in South Melbourne and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance and at the Australian Hellenic Memorial at Domain Gardens. The Greek Consulate General was represented by the Vice Consul, Mrs. G. Botsiou.
