Commemoration of 101st anniversary of the signing of Mudros armistice

Friday, 01 November 2019

The Consul General, Mr. D. Michalopoulos, took part, on 31 October in a service held at the Shrine of Remembrance to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the signing of the armistice of Mudros, an event organised by the “Lemnos-Gallipoli” Commemorative Council.  The armistice was signed on 30 October 1918 and put an end to the hostilities between the Entente powers and the Ottoman Empire in WWI.
This year’s service featured the dedication of Memorial Tree B37 in the Shrine gardens and the unveiling of a plaque in recognition of ANZACs who served on Lemnos island during the Gallipoli campaign (1915-16).  In attendance, the former Premier of Victoria, Mr. T. Baillieu, the Shrine Life Governor Lt. Col. A. Lombardo and representatives of Greek associations in Melbourne.
