Hellenic Presidential Guard welcome reception at the Parliament House in Melbourne (22 March 2018)
Nine members of the Hellenic Presidential Guard (the Evzoni) and accompanying officers, headed by the Director of the Military Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Lieutenant General of the Hellenic Air Force, Mr. Gr. Prezerakos, were received on 22 March at the Parliament House in Melbourne.
The Evzoni had earlier guarded the entrance to the Parliament for half an hour, in a symbolic act which underlined the strong bonds of friendship that unite Greece and Australia. The crowd, mostly of Greek-Australians, which had gathered at the Parliament steps cheered at the Evzoni with patriotic enthousiasm.
During the official function at the Parliament House, State Minister for Trade & Investment, Innovation & Digital Economy, Mr. Philipos Dalidakis gave a warm welcome speech for the guests. Other speakers included the Consul General and the Director of the Military Office of the President of the Hellenic Republic who offered Minister Dalidakis a commemorative plaque.
