Inaugural blessing and cutting of the vasilopita, name day celebration of Archbishop Makarios (23 and 26 Jan. 2020)

The Consul General, Mr. D. Michalopoulos, took part at the inaugural blessing and cutting of the “vasilopita” at the Monastery of Axion Esti, in Northcote.  The first and official cutting of the “vasilopita” was presided by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.  Among the officials to attend the event was Mrs. M. Vamvakinou, member for Calwell.

The celebration to mark the name day of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia was held on 26 January at the “Cretan Village” in Wantirna South.  The event was hosted by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia in cooperation with the Pancretan Association of Melbourne and Victoria in front of more than 600 Greek Australians.  Among them, the Consul General who delivered a short address, His Grace Bishop Ezekiel of Dervis, the Very Reverent Father Evmenios, Archiepiscopal Vicar of the District of Northcote, Metropolitan Nathaniel of Chicago, His Grace Bishop Michael of the Romanian Orthodox Church of Australia and New Zealand and priests from all districts of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.  Among the officials, Mrs M. Vamvakinou, member for Calwell.
