Meeting at the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne & Victoria for the start of the cooperation between City Council members of Greek heritage in Victoria and the European Network of Elected Greeks in Local Authorities Abroad (Melbourne, 23 April 2019)

Consul General of Greece, Mr. D. Michalopoulos took part in the meeting which took place at the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne & Victoria (GOCMV) to promote the cooperation between City Council members of Greek heritage in Victoria and the European Network of Elected Greeks in Local Authorities Abroad, which works as a forum of cooperation and exchange of best practices between Greeks in local government abroad and the Central Association of Municipalities in Greece.

The event was attended by the President of the GOCMV, Mr. B. Papastergiadis, the Vice-president of the European Network, Mr. G. Kontorinis, former state Minister, Mr. J. Pandazopoulos and many City Councillors, some of which were awarded for their work to the Greek Diaspora in Victoria.

In his message, the Consul General supported the idea of building bridges between diaspora communities at local government level and reiterated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ support for the work of the European Network
