CV OF THE CONSUL MS. ELENI GEORGOPOULOU

Eleni Georgopoulou was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She studied Lawat the University of Athens and holds a Master’s Degree at International Law from the University of Athens. She also holds specialization in English legal terminology, human rights protection, international jurisdiction, international and civil law judicial procedures, obtained at the Faculties of Law in Strasbourg (France), Vienna (Austria), Freiburg (Germany) and Athens (Greece).
During her studies, she worked as a librarian at the International Studies library of the Faculty of Law, Athens University and also as an intern at the Service of Diplomatic and Historical Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to joining the Greek Diplomatic Service in 2000, she worked as a lawyer at a big private law firm in Athens and also with the with the Legal Department of Commercial Bank in Athens.

As a Greek diplomat, she has served at the Greek Embassy in London, UK (2004-2008) and at the Greek Embassy in Lima, Peru(2008-2011), as Consul and then as Chargée d’ Affaires. She has also been served as Consul General of Greece in Mariupol, Ukraine (2015-2019) and as Consul General of Greece in Vancouver, Canada (2019-2023).

While serving at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens, she has worked as policy advisor in several fields of Greek diplomacy, among which the Cyprus issue (2001-2004), EU relations with USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa (2012-2013), United Nations and International Organizations and Conferences (2014-2015) and Greek relations with USA and Canada (2023-2024).

Apart from Greek (her mother tongue), she is fluent in English, French and Spanish, and she also speaks German and Russian.

She is married with Mr. Kyriakos Tsoulis, retired police officer, and they have 3 children (Vasilis, Dafni and Rea).

In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano and singing in choirs.
