Commemorative Liturgy at the Monastery of St John the Theologian at Prevelly Western Australia
On 11.05.2014 a special Commemorative Service took place at the Monastery of St John the Theologian in Prevelly, Margaret River, WA, in memory of the Australian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Crete (1941). The Monastery was constructed and donated by Geoff Edwards, one of the 17,125 Australian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Crete and mainland Greece, “in thanks to the Greeks who risked and gave their lives to protect and give shelter to Allied servicemen during the 1941 Cretan Campaign of WWII”. On the photos appear Rev. Emmanuel Stamatiou, the grandson and daughter of Geoff Edwards, Simon and Marilyn Sadleir, the President of the Cretan Brotherhood of WA Manolis Yeroyiannakis and the Consul of Greece Sofia Choli.
