Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ statement on arrival at the extraordinary meeting of the EU General Affairs Council (Brussels, 17 February 2020)

Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis made the following statement on arrival at the extraordinary meeting of the EU General Affairs Council:

“Today’s negotiations in the extraordinary Council are on the EU budget, the drawing up of which is already delayed. We need to make decisions quickly. Because the citizens of Europe have asked for more Europe. The proposals on the table today do not meet this expectation. They do not allocate more money to Cohesion. They do not allocate more money to farmers. We are here to fight to ensure that Greece gets the best possible result from a budget limited by the absence of the United Kingdom.”
