Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis to participate in a meeting of the EU General Affairs Council (Brussels, 18 July 2019)
The Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, will participate in the meeting of the EU General Affairs Council (GAC) in Brussels tomorrow, Thursday, 18 July. This will be the first General Affairs Council meeting chaired by Finland, which will present its Presidency’s priorities for the Union.
The agenda also includes a briefing on the Presidency’s plans for work on the Multi-annual Financial Framework for 2021-2027. This will be followed by a discussion on the implementation of the Strategic Agenda 2019-2024, and there will be a presentation of the European Commission’s position on the further strengthening of the Rule of Law within the Union. The Council will conclude with a briefing on the state of play on the Rule of Law in Poland, with regard to the status of judges of Poland’s Supreme Court and the pending cases at the European Court of Justice.
Finally, the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet with his French counterpart, Amélie de Montchalin, on the margins of the Council.
