Political Relations
Greek-Canadian relations are based on a long tradition of friendship and cooperation and are developing in all sectors. The two states cooperate closely – on mutual support of candidacies as well as on other matters – within the framework of international organizations and initiatives, including the UN, NATO, the OSCE and the International Organization of La Francophonie.
Greek-Canadian defence cooperation is at a good level and is promoted mainly within the framework of NATO and EU-NATO relations, as well as bilaterally.
Bilateral economic, business and investment relations benefit greatly from the entry into force of the Greek-Canadian Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation, which was signed in Athens on 29 June 2009.
EU-Canadian relations within the framework of the Transatlantic Dialogue cover a wide range of political, economic and commercial issues, as well as institutionalized contacts.
The Youth Mobility Agreement between Greece and Canada entered into force in February 2013. This Agreement provides young Greek and Canadian citizens, between 18 and 35, with the opportunity to travel, reside and work in each other’s country for up to twelve months.
