Margaret Atwood was honoured in Toronto, on December 9th, 2013
The great Canadian author, Margaret Atwood was honoured with the conferring of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Faculty of English Language and Literature, School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The ceremony took place on December 9th, 2013 in the Consulate General of Greece, in Toronto.
The award was given in the presence of the Ambassador of Greece to Canada, Mr. Eleftherios Angelopoulos and the Greek Consul General to Toronto, Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos, by a delegation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, consisting of Professor of Archaeology Helen Mantzourani, President of the International Relations and European Educational Programs and Professor of American and Comparative Literature, Mary Koutsoudaki.
The event was attended by leaders of the Hellenic Community, members of the Consular Corps, academics, journalists, writers, businessmen and Greek students at the Universities of Toronto.
Ambassador Anghelopoulos highlighted the importance of the conferring, by the oldest university of Greece, of the title of honorary doctor to Margaret Atwood and its special significance for the cultural and educational relations between Greece and Canada.
