The Celebration of the Greek Independence Day, in Ottawa, 25.03.2015
The Greek Independence Day was celebrated with a number of events in Ottawa. A doxology for the Greek Independence Day took place in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, on Wednesday, March 25. Later that day, H.E. Mr. George L. Marcantonatos, Ambassador of Greece to Canada, hosted a reception at his residence, attended by the Honourable Leo Housakos, Speaker pro tempore of the Senate, the Honourable Tony Clement, P.C., M.P, President of the Treasury Board and the Honourable Senator Pana Merchant. Also, dignitaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic corps and the leadership of the Greek-Canadian Associations of Ottawa participated in the event.
The festivities continued on Saturday, March 28 with a very successful celebration organized by the Greek School of Ottawa.
On Sunday, March 29, a doxology was held in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Hundreds of Greek-Canadians gathered at the Monument and then participated in the parade and the flag-raising ceremony at Ottawa City Hall, followed by a reception organized by the Hellenic Community of Ottawa.
