The Hellenic Community of Ottawa celebrates Greek Independence Day and Honors the Heroes of the Greek Revolution of March 25th, 1821
Every year our Community celebrates Hellenic Independence Day of “March 25th, 1821” with events that provide all members with opportunities to pay tribute to the heroes of 1821 and to teach our youth the significance of this important day.
This year the commemorations will be held from Saturday, March 22nd
through to Saturday, March 29th

Sunday, March 23rd The Veneration of the Holy Cross 8:15 a.m. Matins
9:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy - 10:15 Service of the Veneration of the Holy Cross
10:45 a.m. Doxology& Laying of the Wreaths
The commemorations will continue at the Hellenic Meeting & Reception Centre
11:30 a.m. Greetings by dignitaries, Honorary recognition of our WWII Veteran Mr. Dimitrios Makris, Traditional Hellenic Dance program and Poems; Wine & Cheese Reception
Tuesday, March 25th The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary 9:00 a.m. Matins, 9:45 Divine Liturgy, followed by Doxology 12:00 p.m. Raising of the Greek flag outside Ottawa City Hall (please arrive by 11:45)
Saturday, March 29th Hellenic School Celebration 10:30 a.m. at D. Roy Kennedy Public School, 919 Woodroffe Avenue.
