Celebration of the National Day of the Hellenic Republic in Shanghai

The reception for the 203rd anniversary of the Greek Independence Day (25th March) was held on March 26th at Wanda Reign on the Bund by the Consulate General of Greece in Shanghai with the participation of at least 200 guests. The celebration in Shanghai took place with the presence of the Greece's ambassador to China, Dr. Evgenios Kalpyris, Consul General of Greece in Shanghai, Mr. Georgios Partheniou, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Mr Zhang Yahong, and other distinguished Chinese Officials.

The event was attended by representatives of Chinese organizations or authorities and universities as well.

In a speech at the occasion, Greece's ambassador to China, Dr. Evgenios Kalpyris gave a brief account of Greece's achievements and its significant role in promoting stability in the region. Among others, the ambassador declared that 203 years after the War of Independence, Greece is a strong and prosperous democracy, a proud member of the United Nations, the European Union and the Eurozone, and a staunch proponent of the European idea and values, the very origins of which can be traced back to the classical Greek antiquity.

In the same context, the Consul General of Greece in Shanghai Mr. Georgios Partheniou stated: “Greece was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2005-2006 and has applied again for candidacy for a non-permanent membership of the Security Council for the period 2025-2026. We firmly believe that if our bidding is successful our country will play a very constructive role towards tackling international challenges such as armed conflicts, environment, and migratory crisis.”
