The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Mr. Nikolaos Kotzias visits Shanghai

After concluding a successful visit to Beijing, where he met among others with the Vice President of China Mr. Wang Qishan and State Councillor and Foreign Minister Mr. Yang Yi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr. Nikos Kotzias, came for a one-day visit to Shanghai on the 29th of August.

His official schedule started off with a meeting with Shanghai Mayor Mr. Ying Yong. They both agreed to boost cooperation between Shanghai and Greece, particularly Piraeus with whom Shanghai has a sistership agreement since 1985.

Following that, he visited the Shanghai Institutes of International Studies, considered as the most important think tank in Shanghai, where he was welcomed by SIIS leadership and staff. Minister Kotzias, a former academic himself, made a speech on the nature and history of Greek-Chinese relations and the role of Greece in today’s international arena.

In the afternoon, he visited the Headquarters of Cosco Shipping, where he was received by the President Mr. Xu Lirong and discussed with him the important investment projects of Cosco at the port of Piraeus.

Minister Kotzias expressed his admiration for the development of Shanghai, while visiting some of Shanghai' s famous landmarks, such as Shanghai Tower and the Bund.

The Minister was accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece to China Mr. Leonidas Rokanas, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Dimitrios Paraskevopoulos, the Head of his Diplomatic Cabinet Mr. Theodore Passas, the Consul General of Greece in Shanghai Mr. Vassilis Xiros and the Spokesperson of the MFA Mr. Alexandros-Andreas Yennimatas.
