16/03/2020 Announcement by the Embassy of Greece on new measures fighting COVID-19 outbreak in China

According to data provided by Chinese authorities, as of March 16, 2020, 81.079 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in China (67.863 patients have recovered and 3.218 have died).

All Greek citizens who intend to travel to China are advised to pay attention to the new restrictive measures put in effect as of Monday, March 16, 2020. According to these measures, all passengers (even asymptomatic) arriving in Beijing are obliged to undergo detailed health control at the Airport and a mandatory quarantine and monitoring period of 14 days in specified locations designated by local authorities and staffed with medical teams, at their own expense.

In Beijing, additional stringent and restrictive measures are applied, such as controls at city entry and exit points, temperature measurement when entering buildings, compounds, hotels, the subway and public buses, mandatory use of a mask and prevention of public gatherings. In most restaurants, dining is limited to maximum two per table.

Similar measures apply in other Chinese provinces as well.

Given the new restrictive measures of Beijing Municipality and the fact that Beijing is the main gateway for travelers to China, the Embassy recommends that Greek citizens avoid traveling to China, comply with the National Public Health Organization (EODY) travel instructions and refer to Embassy Announcements regarding precautionary measures..
