International Conference “Kazantzakis 60 years after” in the Center for Hellenic Studies (Peking University)

On 1/12/2017 an international Conference on Nikos Kazantzakis was held in the Center of Hellenic Studies (Peking University), in the framework of Kazantzakis Year, in order to commemorate the 60 years since his death. The Greek language Professor, Ms. Elena Avramidou, coordinated the organization of the Conference.

The Ambassador of Greece in Beijing, Mr. Leonidas Rokanas, attended the conference and elaborated on the main aspects of Kazantzakis’ literary work, such as the Greek character and the universality, the love to Homer, the fundamental philosophical element in his thought, the idea of duty.

The main highlights of the conference were theoretical issues, such as the philosophical aspect of Kazantzakis thought and the poetic element of his literary work, influences by the eastern civilizations and by the western philosophy in his works, his views on communism. Moreover, issues related to the translation of Kazantzakis’ work have been discussed.
