Meeting with the Assistant Director-General of the National Library of China Mr. Sun Yigang

Mrs Fotiadou (Minister Councellor) met on Thursday 28/5 with the Assistant Director-General of the National Library of China Mr. Sun Yigang in order to explore a possible cooperation between the National Library of Greece and the National Library of China. The exchange and training of staff, the restauration of ancient books and manuscripts as well the organization of exhibitions and seminars were identified as promising fields of a prospective cooperation scheme. The possibility of signining a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two institutions was also mentioned. Finally, Mr. Sun extended, on behalf of the Director of the National Library of China, an official invitation to his counterpart Mr. Tsiboglou to visit China.

After the meeting, Mrs Fotiadou was given a tour of three exhibitions hosted by the National Library of China by it’s International Cooperation Division Director Mr Zhang Xu.
The aforementioned exhibitions focus on ancient Chinese manuscripts found along the ancient Silk Road, rubbings of ancient Chinese inscriptions as well as items illegally exported overseas in the past and bought by the Chinese State at international auctions.
