Postal Voting
The electronic platform for postal voting is now operational - Greeks residing or staying in China will exercise their right to vote in the upcoming European elections exclusively through postal voting.
On Monday 19 February, the electronic platform for registering on the electoral rolls by postal vote became operational, a few weeks after the adoption of the relevant law.
The activation of the platform marks the introduction, for the first time in Greece, of postal voting as a means of facilitating the exercise of the electoral right of voters for the European elections and national referendums. This is a substantial opening up to Greeks everywhere by removing all practical obstacles to the exercise of the right to vote by Greek citizens, wherever they may be.
The implementation of the postal vote applies to all Greek citizens who are registered on the electoral rolls and wish to exercise their electoral rights in this way, within or outside the territory.
Greeks residing or staying abroad may exercise their electoral rights in the forthcoming European elections in their place of residence or stay exclusively by postal vote. No polling stations will be operating abroad.
To register on the special electoral rolls for postal votes, they must enter the online application via the link epistoliki.ypes.gov.gr:
- Via taxisnet (if they have login credentials),
- By submitting the details of their Greek passport and identity card in combination,
- By submitting the details of their Greek passport and identity card number combined.
Alternatively, they may apply to the competent Consular Authorities of Greece (Embassy and Consular office in Beijing, Consulates General in Shanghai and Guangzhou).
The introduction of postal voting modernizes the ways of exercising the right to vote and gives Greek citizens residing or staying in China the opportunity to vote from their place of residence or stay without having to spend time and money on travelling.
