On Thursday, 24 November 2011, the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations & Development Cooperation, Konstantinos Papadopoulos, headed a Greek delegation to Chisinau, Moldova, and co-chaired, together with Moldovan Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration A. Popov, the 2nd Meeting of the Greek-Moldovan Joint Interministerial Committee on Economic, Technological and Scientific Cooperation. The Meeting, which took place in very friendly climate, culminated in the signing of the relevant Protocol, and the co-chairs reaffirmed their intention to implement the provisions of the Protocol with the aim of further strengthening and deepening economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
Following the conclusion of the Meeting, the Greek delegation met with Greek entrepreneurs active in Moldova. During this meeting, Mr. Papadopoulos briefed those in attendance on matters agreed upon in the Protocol of the 2nd JIC and the potential for Greek enterprises to capitalize on the Protocol when its provisions have been implemented. Issues concerning the organization of the Greek business community in Moldova were also discussed.
The visit to the Moldovan capital was concluded on 26 November with Mr. Papadopoulos’s meeting with the President of the Moldovan Scientific Academy, ex officio member of the Moldovan Ministerial Council (as Minister of Science and Innovation) and Honorary Consul of Greece in Moldova Gheorghe Duca, who is of Greek descent. Mr. Papadopoulos and Mr. Duca agreed that this meeting should mark the beginning of closer cooperation between the Greek and Moldovan scientific communities and of a fertile exchange of know-how between the competent agencies of the two countries in sectors of mutual interest, including renewable energy sources, biotechnology, nanotechnology, medicine and agricultural product technology.
