Today, the 5th June 2012 marks the 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Hellenic Republic and the People’s Republic of China.
Many commemoratory events were planned in the context of this important anniversary in both countries, such as a joint philatelic publication to be circulated by the Greek and Chinese postal services. A variety of events were also organized by the Greek Embassy in Beijing, including a Greek cinema week (21-27/05/2012) and an exhibition on the life and work of Socrates and Lao Tzu (4-9/4/2012).
On this occasion congratulatory letters were sent by the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, the Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos and the Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis to their Chinese counterparts, which outlined the importance of the strong ties that have developed between Greece and China during the course of history. Special reference was made to the institutional aspect of the countries’ co-operation since the adoption of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2006, which provides the opportunity for further enhancement of bilateral relations.
The same spirit was expressed in the letters sent by the President Hu Jintao, the Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi to their respective Greek counterparts.
