Agreements to be signed in Baku on the sale of natural gas from the Shah Deniz II field – Meetings of Secretary General for Int’l Economic Relations Mihalos

Sale agreements are to be signed today, in a special ceremony in Baku, between the Shah Deniz II Consortium and the companies that will be bringing the natural gas to end consumers. The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Peter Mihalos, is representing the Greek government.

Mr. Mihalos will have meetings with Energy Minister Natiqa Aliyev, who heads the Greece-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Committee; SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev; SOCAR vice-President Elshad Nassirov; and the heads of the Shah Deniz II Consortium and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Mr. Mihalos will also meet with Azerbaijan’s Tourism Minister, Abulfas Garayev, and Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev.

The signing ceremony crowns the Greek government’s efforts to have the TAP chosen as the pipeline that will carry Azeri natural gas to the European market. The agreements being signed today render the pipeline construction project sustainable in the long term and, in combination with recent energy developments, contribute to the radical alteration of the energy landscape in our wider geographical region.

Among the principal stakeholders in the Shah Deniz II Consortium is BP, while other stakeholders include Statoil, SOCAR, LUKAGIP, TPAO, TOTAL and NIOC.
