Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis today completed his visit to Lusaka, Zambia, heading a business mission co-organized by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), the Greek International Business Association (SEVE) and the Hellenic-African Chamber of Commerce and Development, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Alternate Minister had a one-on-one meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Zambia, Joseph Malanji, with whom he had the opportunity to discuss the potential that exists for increasing bilateral trade and the investment opportunities opening up for Greek enterprises in Zambia.
He also announced to him that Greece intends to grant three (3) scholarships for Zambian students to study at Greek universities in order to cultivate strong ties between the two countries.
Earlier, Mr. Varvitsiotis had participated in the Greek-Zambian business forum, in the context of which a memorandum of business cooperation was signed between SEV and the Zambian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the presence of Trade and Industry Minister Christopher Yaluma. In his address to the Business Forum, Mr. Varvitsiotis stressed that Greece’s goal is to open new markets for Greek businesses abroad and that, after the ten-year economic crisis, these enterprises now have a window on the world. He underscored that the Greek government stands by and supports them, as in this particular initiative, which brings the two countries closer together. Having highlighted that it has been recognised that Africa will emerge as a global power in the coming years, he invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Zambia to pay an official visit to Greece, accompanied by members of his country’s business community.
Mr. Varvitsiotis met with Greece’s Honorary Consul, Michail Kroupnik, in the presence of members of the Greek community of Lusaka.
The Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs is travelling to Tanzania today to participate in a business forum in Dar es Salaam.
