On this day, 79 years ago, on October 24, 1945, the Organisation of the United Nations was founded with the aim of maintaining international peace and security, enhancing cooperation among nations in resolving international crises and promoting the protection of human rights.
Greece, as one of the founding member states of the UN, supports the Organisation’s work and emphasizes the international obligation of all states to strictly adhere to International Law and to fully respect the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.
At this critical geopolitical juncture, Greece has been elected for the third time as a member of the UN Security Council and its tenure will commence on January 1, 2025.
During its two-year term in the Security Council, Greece aspires to serve as a bridge between North and South, East and West, while maintaining open channels with countries across the world in order to promote international governance that resolutely addresses contemporary global challenges to the benefit of all people.
