The signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation on December 7, 1944, in Chicago, which established the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), marked a milestone in global cooperation on aviation issues. It laid the foundations for ensuring the safety of civil aviation, the adoption of uniform standards and procedures and the optimization of international air traffic control.
On the occasion of ICAO's eight decades of existence, Greece reiterates its unwavering support for the Organization's mission and remains actively committed to continue its engagement in the same spirit of cooperation and consensus. Recognizing the lasting importance of the Chicago Convention’s primary objectives and fundamental principles, as well as ICAO’s contribution to the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation, Greece will continue to promote the objectives of the Convention with the same commitment, especially in light of contemporary challenges.
