Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the UN Security Council Resolution 2771 (2025) on the renewal of the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) (31.01.2025)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the unanimous adoption of Resolution 2771 by the UN Security Council, which renewed the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for one year.

By virtue of Resolution 2771, the Security Council sends a strong message, reaffirming its support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to resume the talks, which aim at resolving the Cyprus Issue on the basis of a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with political equality, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

Greece, as a member of the Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, in coordination with the Republic of Cyprus, undertook consistent efforts during the negotiations for the renewal of the mandate of UNFICYP, thus recognizing its crucial role in de-escalating tensions and maintaining peace and security.

The resolution of the Cyprus Issue is a top priority for Greek foreign policy. We look forward to constructively contributing to the dialogue for a just, viable, and functional solution to the Cyprus Issue within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolutions.
