President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias chaired a meeting yesterday with Prime Minister George Papandreou and the head of the main opposition party, Antonis Samaras.
It was agreed at the meeting to form a new government aimed at leading the country to new elections following the implementation of the decisions of the 26 October European Council. Representatives of the two sides will meet directly to determine the obligations that must be met in carrying through the 26 October decisions, as well as the timeframe that will be required.
Prime Minister Papandreou has already stated that he will not lead the new government. Today, the Prime Minister and the head of the main opposition party will confer anew regarding who will serve as Prime Minister of the new government.
