Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou and the Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of France, Anne-Marie Descôtes, held today in Athens annual political consultations, in the framework of the bilateral strategic partnership agreement. During the meeting, they reaffirmed the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship for both countries and the broad convergence of views on current global challenges.
The discussions focused on bilateral relations, including political and defense cooperation, as well as civil protection and covered issues of common interest such as migration, climate change, Greek candidacy to the UNSC and the response to regional crises, including the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. With regard to migration, they agreed to establish a migration dialogue, on a regular basis.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France also held consultations with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Teresa Angelatou. They discussed issues of common interest, including ways of enhancing the cooperation between the Diplomatic Academies as well as between the Crisis Centre Units of the two Ministries. They also exchanged views on the institutional restructuring taking place within the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of France and Greece and agreed to continue cooperating on this subject.
