Appointment of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Envoy for the Western Balkans (15.06.2022)

Greece attaches primary importance to the consolidation of peace, security and stability in the wider region of Western Balkans.

In this regard, it promotes the consolidation of bilateral relations on the basis of respect for International Law, the International Law of the Sea and actively supports Western Balkans’ European perspective.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, who successively visited Tirana, Skopje, Sarajevo, Belgrade, Podgorica and Pristina in the past weeks, has decided to appoint a Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Envoy for the Western Balkans.

Greece’s Ambassador to Bucharest, Sofia Grammata, has been appointed Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Envoy for the Western Balkans and shall perform her duties in parallel with her existing ones.

Ms. Grammata was appointed Greece’s Ambassador to Romania, with concurrent accreditation to Moldova in 2019. She had previously served as Head of the Directorate for South East Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
