Bilateral Relations
Migratory flows from Greece to Argentina have taken place since the end of the 19th century, which reached its peak in the periodbetween the two WWs. Migration to Argentina continued until the mid-1960s. It is estimated that approximately 50.000 persons of Greek origin currently reside in Argentina, while Greek communities are mainly found in the wider region of Buenos Aires.
A bilingual daily primary school, as well as a secondary school of the central community of Buenos Aires, operate under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis. This school has been granted equivalence to Argentinean schools. There is also a Greek Cultural non-profit foundation based in Buenos Aires, the “FundacionHelenica”, aimed at promoting Greek culture. Buenos Aires is the seat of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of South America.
