Bilateral Relations

Azerbaijan

Greece established diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan in 1992. The opening of the Greek Εmbassy in Baku in the spring of 1993 marked the first opening of a Greek diplomatic mission in the Caucasus countries. In 2004 an Azerbaijani Embassy was opened in Athens.

Bilateral Relations

The President of Azerbaijan Mr. Aliyev paid an official visit to our country on the 16th of June 2014, while the former Prime Minister Mr. Samaras visited Baku on 19-20 September 2014 and participated in the anniversary events dedicated to the establishment of the "Southern Corridor", a pipeline transporting natural gas from Azerbaijan to Europe. The former Foreign Minister N. Kotzias visited Baku on the 2nd of February 2016.  Prime Minister Mitsotakis met the President of Azerbaijan in Sofia on the 1st of October 2022 for the inauguration of the IGB (Interconnector Greece Bulgaria) gas pipeline.
