Bilateral Relations

Haiti

Haiti stretches over one third of the Hispaniola island (western part), sharing borders with the Dominican Republic.

Greece is represented in Haiti via parallel accreditation of the Embassy of Greece in Havana, while Haiti is represented in Athens via its Embassy in Rome.

Bilateral Relations

Relations between Greece and Haiti are strong despite the geographical distance, as they have a special historical background. More precisely, Haiti was the first government of an independent state that recognized the Greek Revolution against Ottoman rule in 1821.Greece has provided Haiti with development aid in the past and has been financially contributing to projects supporting the country’s development. During the last decade, Greece has offered development aid to support Haiti’s reconstruction, following the devastating tropical typhoons and humanitarian and food assistance through International Organizations. Along with the other EU member states, Greece makes annual economic contributions to the UN mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
