Useful Information
The bilateral relations between Greece and Iraq are at a very good level, while there is potential for their further development. The two countries cooperate closely on a plethora of issues of mutual interest, in the context of respect for international law. Our country aims to strengthen business cooperation with Iraq in the following sectors: construction, shipping, transport, agri-food, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, health (hospitals and medical equipment), high-tech, renewable energy sources and green energy, conservation and protection of antiquities. Cooperation between Greece and Iraq in the field of supporting candidacies to the United Nations system is considered to be very good. Greece supports that the European Union should actively contribute to the development of Iraq, notably in the context of the gradual transition from the emergency humanitarian phase to the medium – term strategic planning phase of development cooperation. In this context, our country considers that the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which has been ratified by Greece, is an additional step towards strengthening the EU's relations with Iraq.
