Greece’s accession to the EEC in 1981 was a milestone in Greek-Irish relations (Ireland had been a member since 1973), given that ever since meetings take place on a regular basis. Greece and Ireland have traditionally maintained friendly relations. Both countries are members of the EU, the UN, the OSCE and the Eurozone.

There is a mutual representation at the level of Embassies, which operate in Athens and Dublin. Diplomatic relations between Greece and Ireland were established in 1975. The Greek Embassy in Dublin was established in 1977 in the context of Greece’s application for EEC membership, followed by the establishment of the Irish Embassy in Athens.
