Bilateral Relations

Lebanon

Greece and Lebanon maintain Embassies in Beirut and Athens respectively.

Bilateral Relations

Greece and Lebanon maintain very good relations and cooperation on bilateral as well as trilateral level with the participation of Cyprus. Lebanon’s stability is a priority for us, as the country is located in a geographically unstable region and bears a disproportionate burden of refugee flows, while also facing serious economic and political problems. In this light we support additional EU assistance to Lebanon. Lebanon is a founding member of the United Nations (1945). Lebanon has been elected twice to the Security Council, in 1953 and in 2010. The events of 1978 and the attacks on both sides of the border with Israel led the Security Council to adopt the Resolutions 425 and 426/1978 and the establishment of UNIFIL. Greece contributes continuously since 2006 to the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force with 1 frigate. The cooperation of our country with Lebanon, in the field of candidacies in International Organizations of the United Nations System, is considered satisfactory.
