Bilateral Relations

Lithuania

There is mutual representation at the level of Embassies, which operate in Athens and Vilnius. Greece recognized Lithuania as an independent state in 1922. Diplomatic relations between Greece and Lithuania were resumed on 2 September 1991 after Lithuania regained its independence. The Embassy of Greece in Vilnius has been operating since 2005, while Lithuania has maintained an Embassy in Greece since 1997. Lithuania maintains Honorary Consulates in Thessaloniki, Crete (Heraklion) and Piraeus, which are expected to contribute to the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in the maritime sector.

Bilateral Relations

Greece and Lithuania, partners in the EU and allies in NATO, maintain very good political relations and cooperate within international organizations. In the past, our country has consistently supported Lithuania's efforts to join the Euro-Atlantic organizations, while the Treaty of Accession of Lithuania to the EU was signed in Athens during the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU (16.04.2003).
